79cc RULE CHANGE for 2023

After meeting with other local tracks and observing our 2022 race season we have decided to implement some changes in our 79cc Squirts class. In an effort to focus on developing racing skills of our young racers we have decided to mandate a clutch and driver gear rule. All 79cc squirts will need to be on a 'Max Tourque' clutch with a 12 tooth driver in 2023. We will have these in our speed shop and most all karting shops carry these. You can also find them on Amazon for roughly $30 dollars. These were tested in Syracuse just a few weeks back and had great results. We will also be requiring the 79cc squirts to be on a 55 to 60 rear gear with right rear tire no smaller than 33 1/4 and no larger than 34 1/4.

Please understand our reasoning for this. The 79cc class is meant for kids and families just getting into kart racing. Most have little to no experience racing or working on karts. The 79cc squirts were reaching speeds faster than some of our adult classes last year. These young racers have not developed the necessary skills to be going that fast. They do not understand closing rates, safe places to pass, holding a line yet, etc. With allowing any gear combination this meant karts taking off faster than others, karts having more roll speed than others, passing each other at such different speeds it wasn't safe. The frustration for our staff dealing with new families and kids starting into racing that don't understand gearing and roll speed made for unpleasant times as well. This rule change allows for the better maintained kart that rolls free and the better driver to win in a safe atmosphere. We truly believe this class and families will have alot more fun with their children and race team with this rule change.

So....79cc Squirts basic rules for 2023

-Max Tourque clutch with 12 tooth driver

-Governor set to 4000 +/- 200 rpms

-Remove Oil Sensor

-Vent Fuel cap

-Right rear tire no smaller than 33 1/4 and no larger than 34 1/4

-Must weigh 200lbs at scales

-After market air filter allowed (This allows for quick connect throttle kit and virtually impossible to get stock replacement air filters)
